Frequently Asked Questions

How long and how often are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes, with longer sessions available by request. Many people choose to begin weekly to build a sense of continuity, and we can adjust as things evolve. Others commit to fortnightly. Together we’ll find a frequency that feels right for you. The number of sessions varies greatly between individuals and is influenced by your therapy goals and what you bring through the door with you.

What happens in the first session?

Once you have made your first appointment, I will email you an intake form to complete that we will discuss together in your first session. During this session you’ll have space to further describe what’s brought you here. We will also clarify what you’d like from therapy to ensure the best use of our time together. There’s no need to have everything figured out. Think of it as a conversation where you get to see how it feels to work with me and whether it feels like the right fit for you.

Do I need a GP referral and can I claim a rebate?

You do not require a referral from your GP to come to me. I am not able to offer a Medicare rebate or accept Mental Health Care Plans. If cost is a concern, please let me know and we can have a conversation about options.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling is generally shorter term and focuses on a specific concern you are facing right now, with an emphasis on practical strategies to help you through.

Psychotherapy is typically longer term, and endeavours to deeply examine the patterns, emotions, and past experiences that may be shaping your present.

Gestalt Therapy is an in-depth, experiential form of psychotherapy. However I am also a qualified counsellor.
